You better Red-Neck Recognize! Show gets second Season

Im sure you’ve heard by now about Honey Boo-Boo. Who hasn’t. Alana Thompson aka Honey Boo-Boo has become a pop culture phenomenon, even called “today’s Shirley Temple”.

I admit, I watched the show to see what all the hype was about. I can see why people follow the show and find it entertaining. (because societies standards are so low on what is entertaining, the more foul, and negative the show the more society watches)

Honey Boo-Boo and her family of Red-Necks made famous on TLC’s Todlers and Tiaras, have been signed on for another season. The deal is worth $10, 000 a show for 10 shows for the enitire family. They were receiving $4,000 a show  the first season. Many People feel the Thompson’s are being exploited and are being poorly portrayed as uneducated, fat hillbilly Red-Necks.Families from Georgia, are appalled and claim that the show unfairly depicts the small-town georgian family.

Let Me Tell You Why Im Mad Yo!, Let me Tell you why Im mad!

There are several things that upset me bout the whole Honey Boo-Boo phenomenon,

First of all TLC is exploiting the Thompson family , and severly underpaying them. Compare a $10, 000 per episode split amongst the family, which has 3 million viewers and growing, to the $1million dollars an episode for each cast member on Friends.

Secondly I can’t help feel sorry for the future of Honey Boo-Boo and her family. Once your are type cast, you are type cast for life. What is in her future, being a spokesperson, someone who was famous for being a red-neck. You cant change first impressions as much as you’d like to think you can. What is going to happen is that she will follow in the footsteps of the thousands of child stars before her. Yeah they are making money(not much), but  the money comes with a catch. The catch is no-one will ever take her serious as an adult, she will always be Honey-Boo-Boo, the burping, farting, Go-Go Juice (red-bull & mountain dew) drinking child pageant contestant. SO SAD! As for the rest of the family, they better get all that they can right now because as entertaining as the show is (I use that term lightly) the show will be over soon. Even if it gets picked up for a couple more seasons, how long could it possibly go on?

The thing I find the most disturbing is child Beauty Pageants!!! I cannot believe that parents allow their children to dress up in provocative costumes, and prance around shaking their tushes on a stage. What kind of example is that for kids, and what kind of outcome do they think this will have on their kids in the future? Do they think that these pageants improve confidence in their child? I think it sets them up for defeat, and failure. Most kids are cute when they are younger and look even cuter if you dress them up and hide all their imperfections. All that these parents are doing are setting up their kids for a big dissapointment, afterall there is only 1 winner and the rest are ugly losers. Thats probably how they feel if they don’t win. These parents should have their kids taken away from them. It Is wrong in so many ways and they don’t even see it!

Honey Boo-Boo does have a fun, energetic personality that is contagious, however it is unrefined, and at times overwhelming. This is what made her famous, and a pageant winner, not her looks, and unfortunately for her (looking at her mom and older sisters) she will continue to lose her looks and gain weight. Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just being honest.

I hope for Honey Boo-Boo and the rest of the Thompson clan that they get all they can while the spotlight is still on them. Even if the spotlight is shining on them pointing a finger and laughing at their fat, uneducated, unrefined, red neck lifestyle.
